Airborne transmission

Airborne transmission

A number of diseases are transmitted by airborne infection (sneezing, coughing etc.). These include diphtheria, polio, influenza og meningococcal meningitis.

There is no effective way to prevent infection with these diseases other than vaccination, which is why vaccination against diphtheria, polio and possibly influenza is recommended for all travelers to areas where these diseases are present.

Vaccination against meningococcal meningitis (group A, C, Y or W135) is recommended for all travelers to areas in Africa where meningitis epidemics occur and for all travelers to areas with current meningococcal meningitis outbreaks. Read more about influenza, diphtheria and meningococcal vaccine
