Rotavirus vaccine
Rotarix – oral suspension
Target group:
The vaccine can be used for children aged 6-24 weeks who need protection against rotavirus infection.
Rotavirus infection can cause severe dehydration and vaccination may be considered for infants traveling to developing countries.
Vaccination dose:
The vaccination program consists of two doses. There must be an interval of at least 4 weeks between doses. The vaccination program should preferably be completed before 16 weeks of age and must be completed by 24 weeks of age.
Protection duration:
After basic vaccination, the vaccine provides effective protection against severe courses of rotavirus infection, most commonly affecting children aged 6 months to 2 years.
The vaccine does not protect against diarrhea and vomiting caused by other gastrointestinal viruses or bacteria.
