Rotavirus Prescriptions
Rotavirus is the most common cause of gastroenteritis in children and represents a significant global health problem. The virus is easily transmitted and infection occurs faecally-orally.
An oral vaccine is registered in Denmark and can be offered to infants from 6 weeks of age. The first dose should be given no later than 12 weeks of age. The vaccination should be completed by 16 weeks of age – 24 weeks at the latest. The vaccine contains live attenuated virus and should therefore not be given to children with compromised immune function, including those infected with HIV.
