Infectious diseases from soil and water
Tetanus is transmitted by contamination of wounds with soil bacteria. As it is easy to get sores and abrasions when traveling, it is generally a good idea to be vaccinated against tetanus.
If you have previously been vaccinated, for example as part of the childhood vaccination program, you only need a booster vaccination. This can usually be given at the same time as the booster vaccination against diphtheria. (Link diphtheria/tetanus (DITE))
